The finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman presenting the Budget 2024, highlighted PM Modi’s vision for Viksit Bharat by 2047. Under this she emphasised energy security as a crucial component of this ambitious plan. 

Moving ahead with the motive, innovations in energy storage and grid management are aligned with the goal. The installed renewable energy capacity of India has surged, with solar power leading at 63.4 percent of total renewable output. Further, the Budget allocation of Rs 19,100 crore to the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy has given a significant boost to the alternative energy sector also opening a high scope for job creation. 

Nuclear energy finds prominence, aiming to triple capacity and involve the private sector in small modular reactors. Hydropower projects of 15 GW are under construction in the country at the moment, and capacity is likely to increase to 67 GW by 2031-32 from 42 GW. Government has announced to frame policy for promoting pumped storage projects facilitating smooth integration of the growing share of renewable energy.
